Probably time to find a shoe box and dig a hole in the garden. Since its probably 6ish years old, the hard has most likely failed, and I doubt the battery has much life in it either. You could replace both yourself but the expense isn't worth it. Go get a nano and you'll pay less and get more. But seriously, take it back to Apple for recycling (they have to take it) and you may get a discount on a new one (that used to the the case anyway).
