Re: [MMUG] Re: Imac 27 inch

Got my heart set on the iMac. I don't play many games I want that screen to use as a telly in the front room with iTunes. Also once I retire I might pick up my photography hobby again.

Re: [MMUG] Re: Imac 27 inch

The eizo monitors are fantastic, but the mac pro in the refurb section are a bit long in tooth, they may be xeon cpu's, but even the mid-range i5's are more powerful. For the £1489 that the pro costs you could get the far more powerful I7 computer, 32 gb ram, GTX 780, a good sized ssd for booting and 2x 2tb drives. Far more bang for your buck and a much better system for gaming.

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

It might just be normal file permissions (ignore ownership should ignore, not remove perms IIRC). I haven't tried sharing iPhoto libraries between users, it creates lots of files within folders so permissions will be critical. The command to enable/ disable was fsaclctl but I think it was removed after 10.6 or 10.5, what OS are you on?

Re: Imac 27 inch

I suppose I'm going against the grain here, but have you considered a *shudder* Windows PC? You could build an awesome gaming rig just for playing games on and the money you have saved could buy a decent second hand MacBook Pro or a new MacBok Air!

Re: [MMUG] Re: Imac 27 inch

or for similar (new iMac 27") money you could buy an apple refurbished mac pro & eizo monitor. ****************************** ******** Dilip Rathod - Apple Certified Support Professional Native Systems Ltd - Apple Consultants Network Phone Solihull 0121 743 0875 [link]

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

Hi Re:co Thanks for the explanation even though it still goes somewhat above my head. Maybe these ACL's might explain why I have an issue with iPhoto from time to time. Since upgrading to this iMac I decided to place my iPhoto library onto an external drive so that each of us can access it (assuming none else has that library open within their account).

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

Hi Re:co Apologies for the delay in responding. Im not sure how I managed it but I have managed to delete the old Time Machine back up from my old iMac. I can't remember if I managed to do it from within Time Machine itself or after a reboot but anyway its gone now freeing up quite a lot of space.

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

Access Control Lists… They are extra permissions layers for disks, it means the OS can have a more granular level on permissions. They can be disabled on entire disks but it's probably safer to leave them alone on TM disks, since you may want to restore from it at some point :^) There are also SACL's (Service ACL's) & other kinds too, ACL's are probably involved in 10.8's Gatekeeper & maybe the firewall somewhere too.

Imac 27 inch

I'm itching to pull the trigger on a 27inch imac. I mainly use it for playing games and surfing the web and itunes. I will get the 3 terra byte fusion drive. But my question is it worth getting the getting core i5 or i7. And should I get the fastest processor or would my use case be a waste of money.
