Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

Partitioning should help. Split the volume into one for SuperDuper! & one for the iPhoto library. You can leave permissions on for SD & off for iPhoto. Whatever Drobo calls the 'virtual volumes' they still appear to behave as partitions. It should mean the SD volume remains bootable, otherwise you'd need to re-enable the permissions to boot it, less than ideal if the reason you are booting from backup is because the internal HD just died…

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

It may be another app that needs permissions to be enabled. Something like Carbon Copy or ChronoSync etc. You don't need 2 slashes, / on it's own means the boot volume. The path you entered is failing at '/Volumes/The '. Did you hand type the path? Normally drag and drop will 'escape special characters' like the spaces.

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

It also may be iPhoto trying to enable permissions on the disk too. Swap users & add some new pics see if it breaks. R

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

It hadn't occurred to me that it was a Time Machine volume you were using to store the iPhoto library. Assuming that is the case… You will always have problems keeping files on a TM disk & hoping to share them between multiple users I'm afraid. Time Machine really want's ACL's so it can manage all the wide range of permissions that it is backing up, you cant just disable ACL's and ownership on the volume & expect it to keep working. Time Machine is probably proactive about re-enabling that. iPhoto's repair will add your user as the owner.

Re: [MMUG] BT

Some of this will be different because you are using an older system if I recall correctly Dave, follow along & use the number to refer to any parts that you can't manage. 1) Select Apple menu > System Preferences… 2) Select Network 3) Find the Airport card in the list of network connection types, and select it (may be called 'wireless or wifi').

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

Hi Re:co I'm not using TM for the iPhoto library. The iPhoto library resides on a volume on an external Drobo Thunderbolt drive. I've set up a number of volumes on this Drobo which I'm assuming are virtual volumes (I think this is the way that Drobo operates). I set up this volume to hold the library and nothing else thinking this would prevent conflicts etc but its coming back to bite me in the bum!

Re: [MMUG] Time Machine

Terminal makes life easier, consider it like knowing how to wire a plug - 240 Volts at 13 Amps will kill you quickly but if you unplug and take sensible precautions rewiring is simple. Drag & drop to autofill the file paths in Terminal. CTRL + C will stop any running command or clear the current typed text.

Re: [MMUG] End of the Mac Pro on Tuesday?

Hi Rick Lol re Win 8. And I heard they have already brought back the Start button. I haven't even looked at it - I would rather stick pins in my eyes Dunno about Creative Cloud. Having parted with the thick end of £1,300 for the whole Production Premium suite ( and that was with 50% switchers discount plus CS6 update) I haven't really worked out what it is or how it would benefit anyone working on their own and not collaboratively?.. What do you think. As most of my projects are say 4-5 takes of total of 1hr = 12G data, uploading raw footage onto the web is beyond the possible, given that for example I might have five of those in an average week.

Re: [MMUG] End of the Mac Pro on Tuesday?

It's not really about data. If you want updates beyond CS6 you have to get them from Adobe over the Internet. Not sure about the UK but the US price is $50 a month to get everything or $20 a month per app. There are discounts for existing users in year 1. So if you stop paying the subs, the apps stop working. Lots of debate on what you do then(e.g. Other apps can read PSD)
